Two Devs and a Dog is a small studio in Utrecht. We design, build and run cloud software — some of it for clients, some of it our own. The work is usually the unglamorous kind: systems that need to keep working long after the exciting part is over.

Hello, I’m Britney

I’ve spent a decade building and operating cloud services — four years of it at Amazon Web Services, where I worked on AWS Cloud9, and the years since as a senior and staff engineer on systems that real businesses depend on daily.

What I’m actually good at is the bit in the middle: taking a half-formed idea, working out what it really needs to do, and shipping something small enough to understand and cheap enough to keep running. I’ve inherited enough over-engineered systems to have strong feelings about that.

The name is only two-thirds accurate on any given day. The dog has never written a line of code but attends every meeting.

Legacy systems, stalled migrations, and the kind of architecture that made sense three pivots ago. Working out what to keep, what to replace, and in what order.

Cloud that doesn’t surprise you

AWS infrastructure designed so the bill is predictable and the on-call rotation is quiet. Serverless where it fits, plain servers where it doesn’t.

Our own products

We build and publish our own software too. It keeps us honest about how it feels to be on the other side of the decisions we recommend.

Things we’ve made

Alexa skills: The MyRadar skill for Echo Show and Spot — weather radar on a screen that’s mostly used from across the room.
Serverless plumbing: Deployment pipelines and back-end services on AWS for other people’s products, built to be cheap to run and boring to maintain.
Early-stage products: Beta applications for start-ups still working out what they are — the version you build to find out whether the idea holds up.
In the works: Rehearsal, an iOS app for practising difficult conversations before you have to have them.

Plus a healthy number of things that never left the workshop, which is how you find out what’s worth building.
